Insider tips and information on weddings and events in Seattle, Portland, & beyond.

Destination Wedding

The music at your event should reflect the atmosphere you are trying to capture, and it should also capture you. I often find that when people are crafting their dance playlists, they’re concerned that they have to choose songs that people know, and in doing so, they compromise their personal tastes for their guests entertainment. However, when it comes to your cocktail hour, I always stress to my clients that this is where they can be uncompromisingly themselves.

So how does one craft that perfect playlist? Here is my advice.

1. Don’t Procrastinate

A good playlist takes time to curate, start working on your playlists a month ahead of time! This is one of the most fun parts of the planning process, so enjoy it! Wash some dishes, fold the laundry, grab a glass of wine kick back and jam out. Choose one song that captures the atmosphere you are trying to create perfectly. Just the one. Then start a radio based off of that song. If you are on any streaming services this should be very easy to do. Wait until you find that first song that makes you think “YES. This is the vibe” then begin. The song will find you, don’t worry if it takes a few skips…Immerse yourself in a mindless activity, don’t focus on the music too intently. The right song will always interrupt what you are doing to make itself known.

2. Be Picky

Now that you’ve picked that first song, you have your point of reference. Let’s try this together. I am currently working on a beachy cocktail hour playlist for the wedding I am performing at in Hawaii next week. The first song I choose is: Matoma’s Reimagination of “Free Fallin by John Mayer the (Tropical Mojito Remix)”. It perfectly captures everything I want my audience to feel musically, lyrically, and atmospherically. It also reflects my own personal music tastes. I search through my personal likes first and build a solid base with songs that I know and then I let the radio takeover. I want happy house with an island flair. Total mood booster. It may be snowy outside in Seattle but damn if I am not already Knee Deep (Bobby Brush Remix) in the water somewhere dreaming of this beachfront wedding.

3. Play with the Order

Order can make a difference if your aim is really to create that perfect playlist. It allows you to dictate the ups and downs of the hour as well as the ideal transitions between songs. Sometimes it’s not that a song doesn’t belong in a playlist, but perhaps in a different part of it. I always tell my clients, it’s your job to make the requests, it’s my job to figure out when is the best time to play them. In my beachy cocktail playlist, I decided to start with a pretty upbeat track, Felix Jean’s Honolulu. My aim is to ride the wave of the excitement from the ceremony and then ease them back into a more mellow mood for conversation. Finally I pick things up gradually at the end so that they are starting to feel those mojitos in their feet. Mix it up, try things out! Have fun with it, it’s all about the feeling and flow of energy you are trying to create.

4. Try Something New

Don’t just stick with what you know. Challenge yourself, find a new artist that you’ve never heard before! Do some music discovery! The worst thing that can happen is that you find some groovy tunes to make you move. Don’t be afraid to play music in different languages, it can really add an interesting texture to your event, and I am always a fan of exposing people to culture through music.

5. Make it diverse

Variety is important to a good playlist. You’ll notice similarities and elements that tie your choices together but make sure that you have a good variety of female and male vocalists and that you don’t pigeonhole yourself into one genre! In my beachy cocktail hour, it definitely rests it’s laurels on tropical house, but I included a sprinkle of country/folk, some traditional hawaiian music, an appropriate pop song or two, and some island remixes of popular songs. Take a listen for yourself, make a mojito, and put yourself in one hell of a mood. Enjoy!

You’ve made one huge decision…to get married! Congratulations! However, with that one decision comes about a million more now that you’re planning your wedding. Fear not! With most research made possible through online sleuthing, you’ll be done before you know it. (Well not really but just go with me here.) Let’s tackle one question together: Do you need to hire a videographer for your wedding?

Another way to approach this question is: Will you regret not having one? Since this is one important day, it makes sense to want to be able to remember it clearly, and to be able to share it in the future. Photographs are incredible ways to relive memories, but being able to have moving footage (and audio!) is a whole nother immersive experience.

You Probably Won’t Remember Much From Your Wedding Day.

With the joy, excitement, possible nerves (and tears!), it may prove to be impossible to clearly remember your big day. Many couples report that it was all one big and beautiful blur. Details will inevitably be lost in all the hustle and bustle.

When you’re in the moment, you’re in the moment, so small but wonderful things, like the sound of a loved one’s laughter, may be quickly forgotten without a videographer.

Aren’t You Just Plain Curious About How You Looked?

Part of the fun of a wedding is being able to both look amazing together and there’s no shame in wanting to see that on film! Another advantage is for the bride to be able to see herself walking down the aisle from her friend’s and family’s perspective (and grooms!) Also, the ability to hear each other saying your vows out-loud is something that just can’t be captured without a videographer.

With Video You Can Be The Stars Of Your Own Little Feature Film.

With the addition of music, colored tones, and the careful direction of a videographer, you can create something pretty magical. Gone are the days of shaky, boring, and unartistic wedding videos. The quality of film is much much higher than it used to be and videographers are more aware of personal style, creativity, and uniqueness.

Sharing Is Caring

Having a video of your wedding grants you the ability to share your day with others (along with each other) for years to come. Think about that for awhile. For anniversaries in your future, what a great way to spend an hour or two of it! If you plan on having children (or grandchildren) you will be able to share this day with them. Also, if a friend or family member wasn’t able to be with you, what an easy and thoughtful way to share your wedding with them.

Hey, What About The Drawbacks?

A common concern is that the videographer will be in the way. This may have been true in the past when cameras were enormous, but this is no longer the case. Videographers will be dressed like any other guest which will also help with blending in.

Being camera shy can be another concern for some couples. A videographer will be moving around, interviewing guests, and just generally in the background making it easy to be forgotten about.

Budget is another worry for some, but it just may be less than you think! Many couples will cut something else in their budget to make it possible. A common example is asking your guests to become your photographers! This usually creates unique, candid, and personal photographs.

Ok, ok you’ve convinced me! Now what?

If you want a suggestion for a videographer, I’ve got the one! (A little wedding humor). Check out Orion Entertainment to see some gorgeous examples of wedding videography done right!

Photo Booth rentals are a fun addition to many big events.

Weddings, proms, sporting events, conferences, meetings, birthdays, anniversaries, and other celebrations all have a market for the popular entertainment. Event planning can be tedious and the amount of options can be overwhelming. Here are five tips to help ensure you book the right photo booth rental service for your event!

1.Use References or Reviews

Perhaps you have already enjoyed the best photo booth service or heard great reviews from friends and family. Using a company with a review from someone you trust usually feels more reliable. If not, research local photo booth rental services and read the reviews. Also try researching about the company and find out how long they have been in business, if they are sponsored or partner with anyone, and where they are located.

2. Set A Budget

Photo booth rental services have a wide range of prices with different packages and can get pricey for larger events. Setting a budget will help you narrow down your options for both the service and the package.

3. Find The Best Deals and Promotions

Many photo booth rental services may offer special discounts and promotions. These opportunities to save could come from referrals, holiday specials, or discount packages. So don’t be hasty to book, and take the time to compare deals.

4. Get The Most Benefits

Most photo booth rentals offer a variety of packages. Be sure to compare the different packages and what they include so you can be sure you get the best bang for your buck. Define your needs prior to looking. Do you need the photo booth rental for 3 hours, or all day? Is self- serve sufficient, or do you need an onsite assistant? Do you want just digital sharing, or also print outs and DVDs? And don’t forget about the backdrops, props, size of the booth, photographers, and lighting.

5. Know Your Audience

The photo booth rental you book with may depend on the audience of the event based on the different package themes offered. For example, many photo booth rental services offer packages specifically for weddings. Many also have theme packages such as “hipster” and “millennial” that target various age groups. Choose a company and package that is appropriate for your audience size, age, and style.

Weddings are a huge milestone event in the lives of both the couple as well as their friends and family. Finding a wedding DJ that is the right fit for your big day will ensure that you and all of your guest have an absolute blast!

When searching for a wedding DJ, you’ll first want to ask for recommendations from friends and family members. Then, search the Internet for local companies and read some reviews from previous customers. Once you have compiled a list of several companies, you can compare and contrast their services.

The next step, is to schedule a 1 on 1 meeting with 2 or 3 wedding DJ’s to discuss potentially hiring them for your event.

Before meeting with each service, take the time to narrow down what features are an absolute must and what questions you have. Two topics that are essential to hiring a wedding DJ are the songs/music you do and don’t want played. Keep in mind that there are going to be guests ranging in age and musical taste at your wedding. Try to have a wide variety of music on your playlist, so all guests can enjoy the celebration.

Another obvious thing to keep in mind when hiring a wedding DJ is price.

Wedding DJ services can cost upwards of $4,000. With that in mind, you’ll want to make sure the company you choose is willing to accommodate your preferences and do everything it takes to make your special day one to remember. However, there are a few ways to keep costs down. Search out companies that offer military discounts or discounts for Monday-Thursday weddings. Also, considering combining your wedding DJ needs with a photo booth to save several hundred dollars.

Lastly, some additional factors about the wedding DJ service itself.

Look for companies that have extensive experience in weddings specifically. Request to listen to some of there mixing samples. And ask them what sets them apart from other wedding DJ’s. If you get the chance, attend an event they are performing before you make your final decision.

Finding the right DJ for your wedding is just one of many to dos in preparation for your big day. Luckily, at we have all the necessary equipment and expertise to make your wedding day perfect. In addition to our DJ services, we also offer photo booth and videography services at a discounted rate (when purchased in conjunction with one of our customer tailored DJ packages).

No matter the event, wedding, birthday party, or social function, memories are sure to be made. The best way to ensure that these memories really do last a lifetime, is to record them with photos. More specifically, by consulting with and hiring a photo booth rental company.

By renting a photo booth, your guests will be able to enjoy the party without having to worry about recording every second of it on their smart phone or camera. With a wide array of props and custamizable package available, there’s a photo booth rental service that can meet all of your needs.

There are several important factor to keep in mind when hiring a photo booth rental service. For many, the most important aspect is price. Photo booth rental can cost anywhere from $500 to upwards of $2,000.

It all depends on the length of your event and just how many extra features you want to add to your package. For example, it can cost an additional $500 if you want to have a printing kiosk at your event for guests to receive immediate copies of their photos. Speaking of money, many photo booth rental services require that you pay up to 40% of the total bill for a down payment. The other 60% is expected to be paid in the days leading up to the event. In addition, if you decide to cancel your photo booth rental services, many companies are likely to keep the down payment.

There are some ways to cut the costs of renting a photo booth for your next big event.

First, check to see if the company has discount for schools, charities, or active military members. In addition, if you are expecting to utilize these services frequently, find a company that offers a discount for repeat customers. Lastly, be realistic about your actual photo booth needs. Do you really need to have the photo booth there for your entire 4-6 hour event? Are all the extra feature that you’re paying for really going to enhance the photo booth experience for your guests?

In today’s world of social media, photos are the perfect way to both record important life events and to advertise to potential clients. Hiring a photo booth rental company for your next big event accomplishes both of these goals. Photo booths give guests a chance to make new memories and let loose!

Photo booth rental is also a superior option to hiring an actual photographer in many ways. With cheaper costs and more tailoring to fit the customers needs, photo booth rental companies are the thing to have at your next big event.

Bar mitzvahs are a ton of work. Your kids put in countless hours of time studying Torah, learning t’filot, and going to Hebrew school week after week so that they can be ready for the big day. After all that hard work, you want to make sure that their bar mitzvah party is going to make all of that hard work worth it in the end. There is only one way to guarantee that your child’s bar mitzvah party is going to be as “lit” as they’re hoping it will be – hire Orion Entertainment. Seattle’s best bar mitzvah DJ.

We aren’t afraid to say it anymore, we know it’s the truth. But what exactly makes us Seattle’s best bar mitzvah DJ?

1. Experience: Bar mitzvahs are the bedrock of our company. They’re how we got our start and we haven’t forgotten it. In the last 5 years, we have performed at over 100 bar mitzvahs, in 3 states, with just as many happy clients. We know how to keep the kids engaged with fun bar mitzvah games and play the right mix of music to get everyone on the dancefloor. We often assist our clients in planning the timeline of their event. Our clients know they can rely on our expertise to know what to do when so the flow of the evening is seamless. We also have tons of recommendations for amazing local vendors we have had the pleasure of working with over the years. Trust our experience and you will have an evening you and your guests will never forget.

2. Connection: We have deep roots in the Jewish community. Being Jewish ourselves, we know what a bar mitzvah party is meant to be. We know the traditions, the music, and the significance of this meaningful day for your entire family.

3. Passion: Proof of our passion is in the energy we bring to your child’s Bar Mitzvah. We want you to have fun, and let us worry about keeping your kids engaged. We love interacting with the kids and coming up with new and interesting bar mitzvah games that they’ve never played before – or putting new twists on old classics. This is probably what sets us apart, our passion for what we do, and our energy to keep up with 50 of your son or daughters closest friends.

4. Professionalism: If you have ever had to plan a large event, you know there are a lot of moving parts. It’s imperative that your bar mitzvah DJ is punctual, professional, and can help you move through the evening’s programming seamlessly. You need to be able to depend on us, and you can. Not once, have we ever delayed the start time of an event, canceled last minute on a client, or failed to perform our promised duties.

Just ask any one of our previous clients, and they will tell you that Orion Entertainment is the Best Bar Mitzvah DJ in Seattle. Don’t believe us? Just ask, and we will connect you with a previous client who would love to tell you all about us.

There are probably a ton of Buzzfeed articles out there about how to DJ your own wedding – and that’s great. But remember, after you read “12 Egg Tips and Tricks They Teach You in Culinary School” you aren’t any closer to becoming Gordon Ramsay. You probably aren’t catering your own wedding, so don’t DJ it either. It’s simple, there are professional DJ’s for a reason, and just because you downloaded a wedding DJ app, doesn’t mean you should have.

The rise of the iPhone DJ has created many issues for the modern-day wedding DJ and has made crowds increasingly more difficult to please. Wide access to streaming music (which DJ’s can’t use with their DJ software) gives guests the presumption that if they can play a song on their iPhone when-ever they want, well, then a DJ should be able to play any song whenever they want. But this is not always the case. The effect of this disconnect has led to increasingly demanding crowds that can be very difficult to please. It takes the expertise, and the thick skin of a seasoned DJ to know how to effectively manage a demanding crowd, and keep everyone on the dancefloor. You don’t want that responsibility, trust me. Just give your DJ the perfect request list and let them use that information to make your wedding night one you’ll never forget.

DJing my first wedding back in 2013 was honestly one of the most terrifying things I had ever done. All I could think about was ruining a couple’s special day and how if everything didn’t go perfectly that hellfire would rain down upon me in the form of the dreaded bridezilla. Fortunately, it was an incredible evening, and everyone had a great time, but the most terrifying part of the entire night was playing the music for the ceremony. All I knew, was that I do not want to be the person responsible for botching a moment someone has dreamed about their entire life. Being a professional wedding DJ, is a lot of responsibility (but of course it’s highly rewarding).

There is a ton of prep work that goes in to being a Wedding DJ. But the preparation is done over the course of years, and while your DJ will do specific work for your wedding, they have already done a lot of the prep work in their music collections by trial and error of gauging reactions to songs played for crowds. DJ’s are constantly reading a crowd, at times, they make mistakes and lose that crowd. But the true sign of a good wedding DJ is to be able to lose a crowd, and adjust to bring them back and then make them stay. We aren’t psychic, we can’t read minds, we just have a lot of experience when it comes to playing music for other people. We wouldn’t try to do your job, so don’t try to do ours.

Orion Entertainment is proud to be the only Seattle wedding DJ to be partnered with a powerful request management app for your big day. In fact, we aren't just the only DJ service in Seattle that uses Vibo, we are the first and only DJ service in the entire country using it!

Over the years, we have seen it all. Everything from just a list of song titles, without the artist's name, to screenshots of Spotify playlists sent via text. But no more, we are proud Vibo users, and we are never going back - to the benefit of our clients!

This app makes crafting the perfect wedding playlist, a breeze. Once we set you up on your Vibo account, you are in control. As an administrator, you can add your friends and family to the app and they too can contribute to your wedding playlist by adding songs, and up-voting your song selections. But don't worry, they only have access to the sections you allow them to. At the end of the day, you still have the final say!

What's important, is that your wedding DJ also has access to all that information, and for a wedding DJ, knowledge and preparation is power. Upon arriving at your event, your professional DJ comes equipped with a report of the most liked songs by your guests and a break down of what music is supposed to be played when. No more worrying about whether or not you told the DJ what song you wanted to walk down the aisle to, or have for your first dance! No more scrambling together at the last minute to email your wedding DJ that 1o song request list, Vibo allows you to add songs as you think of them, and send them directly to your wedding DJ.

Not only does the app make crafting the perfect wedding playlist simple, easy, and on the go. It makes life for your wedding DJ easy, and thats why we love it as much as our clients do! Vibo allows you to browse through Youtube to select songs, and it also has popular song suggestions if you get stuck. Everything from the latest hits, throwbacks and more.

If you are in a coffee shop, and hear an awesome new song that MUST be on your wedding playlist, you can even Shazam the song, and then add it directly to your dance playlist. The second you think of a song to add to your playlist, you can send it straight to your wedding DJ. It's as simple as that.

Your profile on the app will also have the start, end time, as well as the venue of your wedding so that you know your DJ will be on time, and ready to go with all of your music selections. When it comes to planning the perfect wedding, and making sure the playlist is just right, Vibo gives you and your wedding DJ peace of mind.
